What can teachers do in their spare time in Qatar?

Written by Qatar Teach

When you’re not teaching and you’re looking for something to do in Qatar, we’ve got you covered. There’s plenty of things to do in Doha and beyond, from museums and malls to beaches and more. Each one of these places is a great option for a free weekend or during a half-term.

Here are 5 things teachers could do on a weekend in Qatar or if you are intending to teach in Qatar and would like friends and family to visit, these are the places they could stay.

1. Visit Sharq Village & Spa

Located in the north-west of Qatar, Sharq Village & Spa is a unique holiday destination. It offers an exciting array of activities including water sports, horse riding, cycling and go-karting. The resort also has its own beach where you can relax or take part in any number of water sports such as jet skiing and windsurfing.

Sharq Village & Spa is located within easy reach of Doha International Airport (DOH) which is approximately one hour away by car.

The main building offers accommodation for up to 500 people on beds ranging from single rooms through to luxury suites complete with private swimming pools and jacuzzis. There are also three restaurants serving different cuisines along with bars serving drinks 24 hours per day throughout most days.

2. Dive in to the history of Qatar at Katara Cultural Village

Katara Cultural Village is located in the West Bay area. It was established as a cultural center, and it’s home to several museums and theatres. The village is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily, so you can come by for an afternoon of fun or for an evening stroll. The museum offers tours that provide visitors with information on Qatari culture through artifacts, interactive exhibits, and multimedia presentations.

The theatre is also open from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Visitors can watch plays throughout their stay at Katara Cultural Village—and you can even catch some acting classes if you want to learn more about the process of putting together a show!

3. Head to Al Thakhira beach

Al Thakhira beach is one of Qatar’s most popular beaches. The beach is just a short drive from Doha, and even though it gets busy during holidays, the huge expanse of sand means that you won’t have to worry about running into people you know.

You can enjoy a picnic or go for a jog along the shoreline before stopping at one of the many restaurants and cafes located at Al Thakhira for some refreshments. There are also plenty of hammocks for lazy days spent reading or napping in the sun. If you want to get your adrenaline pumping instead, rent out one of their jet skis or surfboards and try your hand at surfing!

4. Explore Al Wakrah Souq

Al Wakrah Souq is one of the most popular places to visit in Qatar. It has a lot of traditional items that you can buy, such as rugs and clothes. The souq also has many restaurants with delicious food. People from all over the country come to this market place because they know they’ll find something that they want or need there!

You can get to Al Wakrah Souq by taking a taxi or business . It’s located near Al Shamal Road, so you can easily find it on Google Maps before you leave home.

If Arabic isn’t your first language and you’ve never visited a Middle Eastern market place before then make sure to bring someone who speaks Arabic so they can help translate everything for you!
